[ArM5] Aegis of the Hearth and Wards

Well, my question is: Would you consider the Aegis of the Hearth Ritual to be a ward or not?
The fact is, one of my players came up with a Criamon Vim master, with affinity with and Puissant vim, Puissant Creo and a minor magical affinity with wards, with the idea of having a good watching ward and wards against the four realms at a high level.
No problem there.
And then, he looked at the aegis, and asked if it was considered to be a ward of sorts...
I'd tend to agree, but still, this seems pretty powerful, especially if combined with Mercurian Magic, as it allows one to create very potent Aegises with little vis.
What do you think of it?
