: My view on the question is "if the magic alters the current
: interaction of the object with the magus, then the Parma resists it."
: If the magic would alter the damage done, then the Parma defends
: against damage. If the object was made sticky, then the Parma resists
: the stickiness. If the object was made to glow, then that glow is
: dimmed to a safe level: light is Ignem, not Imaginem, and thus would
: be resisted, even when species wouldn't. Polka dots on a sword would
: not affect how it is swung, so the Parma would not resist a swing of
: the sword.
That would be sensible.
: This is a good one. Only one alteration: If Ignem is resisted
: than Ignem is resisted. Completely. This has no effect on magical
: torches anyway, because the torches lead to emission of species that are
not
: resisted. Thus, the magus can see with a magical torch. If he resists,
: he himself will remain covered in darkness, which will look strange - but
then
: again, he is a magus...
NO - an Ignem torch creates the light, which therefore can be resisted.
Imaginem creates an image which produces mundane species
: Well, I do not see any problems with the rules as stated. Why?
: First, making a sword blue, or smelling of roses, would
: probably be an Imaginem Spell, which wouldn't be resisted. No
: problem here.
That's not the official ruling.
This appears to be a confusion -
!) the smell/image of the sword is mundane species, albeit generated by the
illusion - ie the magus can still smell/see the illusionary version.
2) The sword itself has a magical effect upon it (the illusion), which will
hit parma (& be resisted) when the sword physically intersects with the
magus.
Interestingly, this does mean an invisible dagger can be parma'd - though
the only character I know who used it would have a pretty good penetreation.
This is why many people have house-ruled the parma issue...
